Description
We know there are lots of winter topics to cover… but this unit was designed with global themes in mind! Throughout this resource, you will teach civics, history, science, geography, and sociology! We hope you enjoy this unit as much as we do!
The topics that we cover include:
S.T.E.M: Winter weather brings on a special set of challenges. Throughout history, people have invented things to make winter more accessible, bearable, and fun! What can your students invent that will change the way we deal with winter weather?
Sociology: The winter games happen every four years. These games were invented to bring different parts of the world together. These games are all played on snow or ice!
Economics: When it snows, the economy is affected in many ways! If people can’t get to work, buy all the bread, and have to fix any damages from the snow, there is lots of money moving around!
Geography: When there is a tropical storm, it gets a name. There is a very specific process for naming a storm. But what about winter storms? Meteorologists are now trying to name winter storms in the same way!
Civics: Did you know that in some places it is illegal to throw a snowball? Some special winter weather laws had to be passed in certain places that get snow.
Make SOCIAL STUDIES important again!
