Hi, I'm Naomi

Naomi O’Brien is an educator, author, presenter, and all-around reading enthusiast who has been teaching kids how to read for real since 2010. Based in Maryland, Naomi splits her time between teaching 1st and 3rd graders, consulting with schools that want stronger literacy results, and creating research-aligned resources that make reading instruction clear, visual, and doable.

She’s a proud member of the Get Your Teach On content team, where she presents high-energy sessions that blend the science of reading with practical, teacher-friendly routines you can use the very next day. Naomi also travels for author visits, bringing stories, phonics fun, and joyful reading experiences to classrooms everywhere.

Whether she’s teaching, presenting, or creating, Naomi’s mission stays the same: help educators feel confident and help students feel like reading superheroes.

Teaching Experience

I have taught K-5 with a heavy focus and love for kindergarten and first grade. I attended the University of Central Florida and majored in Elementary Education. I have taught K-2 multiple times. I was a Prek/K teacher for one year and a K-5 gifted and talented teacher for a year as well.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is very hands on. It’s important for me to help the students make connections and feel like they own everything we are learning about. I like to make school fun and educational at the same time. I am also all about social studies! I have been making it a priority in the classroom since 2016 and it was the classroom shift I never knew I needed!
