Description
Our upper elementary students don’t always come to us with strong foundational decoding skills for vowel teams like ou and ow. Give them 15 minutes a day of focused, systematic instruction to close gaps in foundational reading and build confidence with these diphthongs.
We know you also have your grade-level curriculum to get to, so we made these lessons short, explicit, and ready to teach.
What’s included:
- Editable morning message slides for each day with slide notes for teaching
- Explicit review and teaching of the OU and OW vowel team sounds
- Daily phonics instruction targeting diphthong patterns
- Daily phonemic awareness activities
- Daily fluency practice with OU/OW words
- Decodable reader focused on ou and ow words
- A reading/comprehension task that reinforces the patterns in context
- 30+ digital slides for whole-group or small-group instruction
- Teacher lesson guide with pacing and routines and tips.
This resource follows Science of Reading (SOR) best practices to help your 3rd–5th grade learners independently read and spell words with the ou and ow vowel teams.
