Description
It’s important for students to know history! It’s also important for that history to be accurate and something that students can connect and respond to. There are many slavery and Underground Railroad units out there, but this is not your average unit! This unit was designed with global themes in mind! Throughout this resource, you will teach S.T.E.M, history, civics, geography, and sociology! We hope you enjoy this unit as much as we do! A reflection sheet for each lesson and a parent letter has been included to send home with students.
The topics that we cover include:
S.T.E.M: How did enslaved people use code words to communicate about escaping to freedom? Can your kids create their own code words using math terms?
Sociology: What is slavery and why did it happen?
Civics: What were the Fugitive Slave Acts? How does Congress turn bills into laws.
Geography: Where was The Underground Railroad and how exactly did enslaved people know which direction to go?
History: Discover 5 Myths About Enslavement and learn 5 truths that are important to know!
Make SOCIAL STUDIES important again!
