Description

Teachers,

Low performing students are statistically less likely to be called on to answer questions in class. When they are called on, they are asked easier questions by their teachers. What can you do to make sure you are more intentional about who you call on and what you ask them? Try utilizing strategic partners! I assign roles to my students. I have my higher performers paired with my lower ones. For example, the higher kids may get badges that say “Macaroni” while the lower students may have the “And Cheese” badges. When I ask a question I say things like, “Macaroni work with Cheese. Cheese has to talk first. Macaroni will write down what they say.” OR “Macaroni share with Cheese. Cheese will explain what Macaroni said to the class.” It really helps to make response opportunities more equitable and gives everyone a chance to respond and be heard.

This also helps me differentiate questions and tasks for students easily.
